Healthy Girls, Healthy Communities
BintiCare's flagship Pad a Girl Program ensures no girl is denied an education because of her cycle — combining menstrual health education, reusable pad distribution, mentorship and economic empowerment.
What this program does
Healthy Girls, Healthy Communities is BintiCare Foundation's menstrual health and dignity program. It combines menstrual health education, reusable pad distribution, mentorship and economic empowerment, helping girls manage their periods safely and confidently while training women to produce reusable pads as a source of income.
Quick Facts
Why this program exists
Menstruation remains one of the most overlooked reasons girls miss school in Kenya. BintiCare launched this program to close that gap directly — not just distributing pads, but building understanding, confidence and community support around menstrual health. Our Dignity, Purpose and Belonging mentorship sessions help girls recognise their worth and build resilience beyond the classroom, guided by three foundational pillars that shape everything we do.
What we're working to achieve
Keep girls in school during their cycle
Remove the practical and social barriers that cause menstruation-related absenteeism.
Build lasting menstrual health knowledge
Deliver age-appropriate education on menstrual health and hygiene management.
Create local economic opportunity
Train women to produce reusable pads, turning a health intervention into an income source.
Strengthen girls' sense of dignity, purpose and belonging
Run mentorship sessions that build confidence and community connection.
How the program runs day to day
Reusable pad training workshops
Teaching women and older girls to stitch durable, reusable sanitary pads.
Pad distribution drives
Delivering finished pads directly to girls in partner schools and communities.
Mentorship circles
Facilitating small-group sessions built around Dignity, Purpose and Belonging.
Community health talks
Engaging parents, teachers and local leaders to reduce stigma around menstruation.
What this program has achieved so far
In their own words
"Today I don't miss school because of my period. Being a girl is my strength, not my weakness."
